Green Cross International, represented by Green Cross Brazil, and the Brazilian Government, represented by the State of Minas Gerais and the Secretary of Science Technology and Graduate Education, have recently signed an agreement on their commitment to work in concert with one another to protect and sustain water sources in Brazil. On 14 May 2007, the parties signed a Framework Agreement on Cooperation, marking an important milestone and a formalisation of the relationship between the signatories regarding objectives for water sustainability projects in Brazil. The impetus for this agreement is the mutual recognition that water is a fundamental human right and that sustainable solutions must be found at local levels in order to avoid a deepening global water crisis.
