Global Green USA Promotes Clean Transport Vehicles For Oscars Drive

At the instigation of the President of the French Republic, a conference for global ecological governance was held in Paris on 2-3 February 2007 with more than 200 participants from 72 countries. The conference was concluded after the launch of the "Paris Call for Action" by President Jacques Chirac.

First announced by President Chirac last September at the United Nations, the conference has, in one fell swoop, added strong political signals on behalf of the international community. Several months ago, the much awaited Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change was released, as was the IPCC report on Climate Change on the 2nd February.
There were 6 themed workshops at the Conference and various ministers, scientists, heads of business, NGOs, and worldwide celebrities participated according to their particular area of expertise. The purpose of these workshops was to generate new ideas to tackle the serious issues threatening our biosphere.
Stars Skipping Gas Guzzlers; Arriving in Eco-Friendly Vehicles –
5th Year of Global Green’s Red Carpet/Green Cars Campaign
Los Angeles, CA. (February 23, 2007) – To shine the light on solutions to climate change and lend their star power to the problem of global warming, some of the world’s biggest celebrities are choosing to arrive at the Academy Awards in ‘green cars’. Instead of stretch limos or SUV’s, they’ll be arriving in eco-friendly hybrids, electric sports cars and other green vehicles. Celebrities and notable individuals participating this year include : Leonardo DiCaprio, Penelope Cruz, Forest Whittaker, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Ryan Gosling, Gwyneth Paltrow, Al and Tipper Gore, Melissa Etheridge, Davis Guggenheim and Elisabeth Shue, Larry and Laurie David, Lawrence Bender, Scott Z. Burns, Lesley Chilcott.
"Global warming is threatening us all" said Oscar nominee and Global Green supporter Penelope Cruz. "Fortunately, there are many simple things we can all do such as driving greener cars or changing to compact fluorescent light bulbs, which can dramatically save energy and reduce global warming pollution."
This year, Global Green is highlighting the increased choice in eco-friendly cars as examples of the directions automakers can head. A plug-in Prius that gets 100 mpg, the Tesla Roadster, an electric sports car, and Compressed Natural Gas vehicles are included in the green fleet. The Red Carpet/Green Cars Oscar campaign kicked-off Wednesday night with a pre-Oscar Party at the Avalon Hollywood to raise funds and awareness for Global Green’s smart global warming solutions: clean cars and green buildings.
“Vehicles and buildings are two of the biggest contributors to global warming pollution,” said Matt Petersen, President of Global Green USA. “By arriving in ‘green vehicles’ instead of gas-guzzling limousines, well-known individuals are helping shine the light on smart solutions to global warming: what we drive, as well as how we live.”
For the past five years Global Green has highlighted smart solutions to global warming through its Red Carpet/Green Cars campaign. In 2006, Global Green launched its Sustainable Design Competition for New Orleans chaired by Brad Pitt and is currently building the first green affordable housing project in the 9th Ward.
