Green Cross France calls for more active stance on the “Right to Water” issue

GC France supports the Appeal for the Framework Convention on the Right to Water Campaign to be put into practise. This Appeal was launched by several important international NGOs particularly those from the French Water Coalition.
 
In a letter dated 9th May 2007, Laurent Chabert d’Hières, the Coalition’s Coordinator, replied to the questions raised by the Human Rights Council. Firstly, he reminded the High Commissioner that the NGO Water Coalition considered access to clean water to be a fundamental human right. He went on to add that whilst many States had been in favour of a Right to Water it was regrettable that so few had not incorporated this in their legislature, and had not encouraged the necessary financial backing or human impetus to propel the issue onto the international agenda.
