Title of event: Environmental and Humanitarian Emergencies: Building capacity and raising awareness for sustainable development

Date and time: 19 June, 1.30pm – 3pm

Venue: Mountain Pavillon, Athletes Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Event Synopsis: This off-site event will discuss the need for stronger cooperation between humanitarian and environmental preparedness efforts, long-term action, and governmental and local capacity building, in light of the frequency of natural and man-made disasters and the increasing human pressure on the environment.  A number of speakers will look at the trends, challenges and opportunities available, and how we can raise the profile of forging sustainable development through preparedness for environmental emergencies. GCI President Alexander Likhotal will speak at the event.
