2013 was chosen to be the International Year of Water Cooperation by the United Nations. Contributing to several major international meetings that paved the year, Green Cross will co-host, on August 15th and September 1st, two side events on the importance of strengthening international water law as a basis for transboundary water cooperation. Come and join us at the following events
Our first event will take place at the 9th World General Assembly of The International Network of Basin Organizations which lasts from the 13th to the 16th of August 2013.
On Thursday August 15th, from 13:30 – 14:30, we will be co-hosting an event with WWF titled: "Legal Tools for Transboundary Water Cooperation: What's in them for you?"
The event will explore recent developments in international water law, as a tool for supporting transboundary water cooperation and states’ efforts to deal with major global challenges, such as rising water demands and climate change. In particular, the event will consider two UN global water conventions, their role and relevance, and their relationship with other multilateral environmental agreements.
Moderator: Flavia Rocha Loures , WWF
Sonja Koeppel, UNECE: “Introducing the global water conventions”
Blaise Leandre-Tondo, CICOS: “Global conventions: examples of concrete benefits for climate adaptation in shared basins”
Arnold Kreilhuber, UNEP: “Implementing International Water Law and Multilateral Environmental Agreements – Synergies and Opportunities”.
