Master of cinema Francesco Rosi has been awarded by Green Cross Italy for his film “Le mani sulla città” (Hands over the city) in which he condemns social and environmental issues in the city of Naples, Italy.
“A movie painfully contemporary”. This is the definition movie director Rosi has given to his masterpiece “Hands over the city”, which was shown on 26 June in its restored version at “Casa del Cinema” in Rome, Italy.
During the event, organized by Green Cross Italy in collaboration with ANAC, the Italian National Association of Cinema Authors, and with the Rome Experimental Center of Cinematography, the movie director received the “Blue Drop Award”. This is a special edition in blue glass from Murano of the drop-shaped Green Drop Award which Green Cross Italy confers every year to the most ecologist movie nominated at the Venice International Film Festival. This drop represents the strength of every small action, including the powerful ones that can be generated by a movie.
“This award honors and touches me”, stated master Rosi. “This recognition gratifies me because in my movie director’s work I’ve always tried to achieve something culturally useful. I am convinced that Art means nothing if it is of no use. It can’t be only beauty. With this movie I tried to understand what is Naples and what we can do to improve the situation in our country”.
Movie Director and ANAC President Ugo Gregoretti and the researchers of PNRA, the Italian National Program of Research in Antarctic of ENEA (the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) and CNR (the Italian National Research Council) also attended the event. The next Green Drop Award will in fact be filled with soil from the South Pole.
