GC Japan celebrates 16th environmental diary contest awards

Green Cross Japan held the latest award ceremony for their Green Lane Diary Contest on 13 December 2014 in Tokyo. This was the 16th annual edition of this contest.

One child was awarded the top prize for 2014

About 200 elementary school students, aged six to 12, were gathered from all over Japan to receive awards recognizing their submissions. Each of them had kept an environmentally-themed diary over 12 weeks in 2014.

Four diary contest winners from Sri Lanka also participated in the ceremony. Their attendance in Tokyo was part of the prize they had won for their own diaries. This was a special year for Green Cross Sri Lanka, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2014.

Prior to the award ceremony, the Sri Lankan students made a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Mitsubishi Corporation in Tokyo. Mitsubishi has sponsored the Sri Lankan programme since 2011.

Teachers and parents were also on hand to support the students, and in total more than 500 people participated in the award ceremony.
