The Solar Impulse team premiered a new film in Paris on 21 November, having completed the first ever round-the-world flight by a purely solar-powered plane. Green Cross International’s Adam Koniuszewski and Luc Hardy were there to congratulate Bertrand Piccard, André Borschberg, and the Solar Impulse crew and team on this amazing achievement, and to view the French version of their 90-minute documentary. The English version will be released early in 2017.

Piccard and Borschberg’s inspiring endeavor prominently demonstrates what is possible with today’s technology, dedication and imagination. This is why Solar Impulse projects have been featured in successive editions of Green Cross’ “The Future We Want” photo exhibit series, which showcases promising initiatives for a sustainable, prosperous and low-carbon future.

As Piccard said upon landing in Abu Dhabi: “We have flown 40’000 kilometres (around the world) without fuel, but there is still a lot to be done to encourage a worldwide implementation of clean technologies and to motivate everyone to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels in their daily lives.”

“By capitalizing on the engineering skills and expertise gained over the past decade, we will continue to work to encourage concrete innovations and disruptive solutions,” said Borschberg.

Some experts had said that Solar Impulse 2 was, “too big, too light and impossible to control in flight.” Piccard and Borschberg nevertheless worked to secure funding from industrial partners and apply the latest technologies to construct the most energy-efficient airplane ever built.

Change is possible!
