Green Cross International`s Chief Operating Officer, Adam Koniuszewski, spoke on Monday about the problems of land degredation caused by armed conflict and pollution, as well as Green Cross`s important work in reducing these.
Adam cited the cooperative work Green Cross undertakes with the Blacksmith Institute in investigating and assessing the world`s worst polluted environments.
Green Cross has worked throughout the world to increase the awareness of the dangers associated with industrial waste and military chemical/nuclear weapons. Green Cross has also determined the best practices for remediation and for avoiding other potential man-made environmental disasters, and has consistently pressured polluters to implement these. Adam talked about the destruction of chemical weapons and obsolete pesticides in particular, and the significant costs associated with these programmes.
