E-commerce and environment take centre stage on Earth Day

Green Cross International’s partnership with yoox.com, the largest Internet fashion retailer, celebrated its second anniversary on Earth Day with a series of new initiatives.

In a special section of Yoox’s website, GCI’s new Smart Water for Green Schools project is highlighted with a video of the pilot school in Ghana where the project was launched earlier this year. The project seeks to build rainwater harvesting systems and ecological latrines in schools to provide a reliable supply of water, hygiene and sanitation facilities, as well as environmental education to students, teachers, and parents living in transboundary river basins.
Among the other initiatives are new editions of the ever.green series, limited edition t-shirts designed by celebrities and international stars and produced by EDUN LIVE, an ethical fashion brand founded by Ali Hewson and her husband U2’s Bono. Following in the footsteps of Angela Lindvall, Summer Rayne Oakes and Elettra Wiedemann will turn eco-friendly messages into unique designs for the 100% organic cotton t-shirts.
“The support and constricutive example that companies such as yoox.com provide is very important,” said Elio Pacilio, President of Green Cross Italy. “By utilizing materials and processing methods with low energy consumption that is respectful of ecological balance and animals, we preserve the environment and us all, and thereby ensure a better future for the next generations. Green Cross’ goal is to create a long-lasting awareness that goes beyond Earth Day.”
