Environmental movie prize Green Drop Award goes to Amos Gitai

Green Drop Award, Amos Gitai, VeniceAt the 70th Venice Film Festival held on 6 September, 2013, the Green Drop Award was presented to the film Ana Arabia, by Amos Gitai (pictured holding trophy).

Green Cross Italia and the City of Venice presented the award during a gala event at the Hotel Excelsior (sala Chez Vous della Regione Veneto). The Green Drop Aeard jury is comprised of jury presdient, and film director, Mimmo Calopresti, actress Ottavia Piccolo and climatologist Vincenzo Ferrara.

Green Drop Award, Amos Gitai, Elio Pacilio, Green Cross ItaliaThe Green Drop Aaward is a sister-event of Global Green USA’s annual pre-Oscars spectacular held annually in Los Angeles.

“We don’t understand why in a world that should take care of the environment that is our future, so few films talk about that,” said Calopresti. “It wasn’t easy for the jury to choose the film that best shows the values of ecology and sustainable development, with special regard to ecosystem conservation for the future generations, lifestyle and cooperation among people.”

Green Cross International (GCI), founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mikhail Gorbachev in 1993, is an independent non-profit and nongovernmental organization working to address the inter-connected global challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation through a combination of advocacy and local projects. GCI is headquartered in Geneva and has a growing network of national organizations in approximately 30 countries.
