Franz Josef Radermacher is the Director of the Research Institute for Application Oriented Knowledge Processing (FAW), in Ulm, Germany. He had previously been Professor of Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Passau. He became a member of the European Commission’s Information Society Forum in 1995, and chairman / member of the Steering Committee of Working Group 4 on Sustainable Development in 1997.

Radermacher joined the European Commission expert group INFO2000 in 1996, when he also became a member of the Strategic Requirements Board for the 5th Framework Programme of the European Commission. In 1997 he became Deputy Speaker of the SFB 527 “Integration of symbolic and subsymbolic information processing in adaptive sensomotoric systems“ of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.

In 2000 Radermacher became part of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Housing, as well as the Global Society Dialogue Task Force of the EU Information Society Forum.
