Green Cross International’s 20th anniversary Earth Dialogues conference, held at the United Nations on 3 September, will be streamed live via video, making it possible for people all over the world to follow high-level speakers making their own unique contributions to promote sustainability, security and environmental conservation.

Green Cross, founded in 1993 by President Mikhail Gorbachev, is staging the 7th Earth Dialogues conference at the United Nations Office at Geneva. Web-conferencing of this event, as well as a 4 September discussion between students in Geneva and schools at various locations around the world will be conducted by voice and video collaboration solutions provider Polycom, who will support GCI’s 20th anniversary activities making it possible for people all over the world, to watch, follow and interact remotely with the 3 September events.

“Polycom’s support will help to convey important messages on sustainability, climate change, security, human development and the future of humanity,” said GCI President Alexander Likhotal. “Thanks to Polycom, Green Cross and Peace Child will be able to broadcast, live around the world wide range of contributions by eminent speakers and experts on the major challenges facing the world today.”

Corinne Momal-Vanian, Director of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, said: “New media and technologies, such as web-conferencing, allow international organisations to reach a much wider public and encourage greater participation by youth groups and other civil society leaders in the international forum where policies are being decided which will forge our common future.”

Earth Dialogues panellists will include Nobel Peace Prize winners including President Gorbachev former Kyrgyzstan President Rosa Otunbayeva, acclaimed oceans advocate Jean-Michel Cousteau, and Mohan Munasinghe, Vice-Chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The next day, on 4 September, an interactive discussion using Polycom voice and video collaboration technology, will be held, giving students from the International School of Geneva, and a number of schools globally, the chance to hold discussions with cast members of the musical, 2050: The Future We Want. The musical is also being held on the evening of 3 September at the United Nations in Geneva as part of GCI’s 20th anniversary, and in conjunction with Peace Child International.
