15.1 By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements.

Water for Life and Peace

GCI advocacy’s on transboundary water cooperation between different regions and states, notably through promoting the UN Watercourses Convention, promotes the sustainable management of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their services.

Environmental Security and Sustainability

GCI actively removes hazardous chemicals from local environments, protecting the health of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems.

15.2 By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally.

Value Change

Our tree planting projects, notably in Eastern Africa (reforesting the Rift Valley), contribute to the ongoing sustainable management of forests.

15.9 By 2020, integrate ecosystem and biodiversity values into national and local planning, development processes, poverty reduction strategies and accounts.

Environmental Security and Sustainability

By removing hazardous chemicals and toxins, GCI protects the health of local ecosystems. Moreover, by nurturing local expertise in the safe and responsible disposal of hazardous chemicals, we ensure ecosystems are protected and included in the considerations for local planning and development.
