GREEN CROSS HELPS UKRAINE’S ORPHANS

Green Cross, through its Ukraine and Swiss chapters and backed by its SOCMED programme, is providing vital support to an orphanage in Slavutich, northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kiev. The community still feels the affects of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which forced the evacuation of the town of Prypyat, and the subsequent building of Slavutich to accommodate people forced from their homes by radiation.

A Green Cross delegation was welcomed to the orphanage on 25 April, 2012, on the eve of the 26th anniversary of the nuclear disaster.
