Green Cross Spain advocates universal Right to Water

Green Cross Spain participated in the forum “Social participation and economical sustainability in water management”, organized by the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation with the support of Aqualia and Emasesa-Metropolitana on 3 December, 2009.

Green Cross Executive Director Alberto Fraguas spoke on the subject of “Public Participation as a tool for water management.” He covered issues such as the price of the water in the poorest countries, the necessity to establish fair water rates for all, the Universal Right to Water, water governance and the necessity to develop the process of public participation as an essential part of water management.
During the meeting, a number of specific subjects, integrated in the European Water Framework, were also debated: water rates, efficient and sustainable use of water, and the principle
of recuperation of the costs (environmental and related to resources).
