GREEN CROSS TURNS 20
The world is at a crossroads: Let’s make the right choices for the future
Since 1993, Green Cross has responded to the combined challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation. Our mission is to ensure a sustainable and secure future for all, seeking solutions through dialogue, mediation and co-operation.
In 2013, the year marking our 20th anniversary, the world is at a decisive crossroads. Warning signs signal dangers all around: unchecked climate change and resulting extreme weather events; continued presence of weapons of mass destruction; 800 million people living without access to water; rampant poverty.
Can we change? Green Cross believes we can, but the window of opportunity is closing.
Mikhail Gorbachev, Founder of Green Cross, said: “The root causes of the crises we are witnessing rest on outmoded theoretical concepts, values and institutions. Time has come for change, not incremental fixes. Conferences, like our Earth Dialogues, can build a bridge to the change we need. The perspectives and experiences of modern leaders, political veterans, experts, youth and the non-governmental community can stimulate a revival of robust multilateralism and high-level government decision-making.”
Green Cross invites people all around the world to help us tackle these critical issues, and join with our 20th anniversary activities.More 20th anniversary information, events:GCI General Assembly (2 Sept, 2013)3rd Green Star Awards (2 Sept, 2013)
