This week, Green Cross’s Paul Walker is in the Netherlands attending this month’s Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) Third Five-Year Review Conference in The Hague, at which Ban Ki Moon delivered opening remarks this morning. The Conference is being held at the World Forum Convention Centre, situated near the building of the CWC’s implementing body, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Beginning today and continuing until 12 April, daily conference reports from Richard Guthrie will be posted discussing event highlights and up-to-date news.
Setting the scene of the conference, Guthrie describes the purpose of the Convention and the agenda, as well as external challenges that may infringe upon proceedings, like the conflict in Syria and proposal of a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
