Since 1993, World Water Day has been celebrated each year on 22 March. Acess to water was declared as a human right by the General Assembly in 2010. Yet, some 884 million people still lack improved sources of drinking water. World Water Day is therefore the occasion to remind the global population of the importance of this precious resource and advocate for a universal access to water.
The official theme of this year celebration is “Water and Sustainable Development”. The international community would like to draw the attention to and reflect on the links of water with numerous essential areas like nature, health, food, the industry or urbanization.
