Green Cross International Rejoins the Geneva Environment Network

Geneva – Green Cross International has rejoined the Geneva Environment Network (GEN), marking a renewed engagement within a key platform for international environmental cooperation and policy dialogue. Geneva hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of United Nations agencies, international organisations and NGOs, making it a central hub for global environmental governance and policy dialogue. Coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the network provides a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange on climate change, biodiversity and pollution.
Formal Renewal of Participation in Geneva
On 8 April 2026 in Geneva, at the International Environment House II, Diana Rizzolio, Coordinator of the Geneva Environment Network, welcomed Green Cross International and the GCIHQ team back to the network, formally marking the organization’s renewed participation.
The Strategic Importance of Geneva
Geneva hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of United Nations agencies, international organisations and civil society organisations, making it a central hub for global environmental governance and policy dialogue. For Green Cross International, rejoining GEN strengthens the bridge between scientific research and international policy, ensuring that field-based insights are integrated into high-level dialogues shaping our planet’s future.
Addressing Interrelated Environmental Challenges Through Collective Action
Today’s global environmental landscape is increasingly defined by interconnected challenges. These challenges can no longer be addressed through isolated projects. Instead, they require a coherent and supportive ecosystem of policy and action. By rejoining GEN, Green Cross International becomes part of a community of over 100 institutions focused on promoting cooperation and practical impact.
About the Geneva Environment Network
Established in 1999 with the support of the Swiss Confederation, the Geneva Environment Network (GEN) has tirelessly fostered dialogue, cooperation and action to respond to the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Through conducting high-level briefings, meetings and roundtables, GEN promotes the dissemination of information and aims to raise public awareness of pressing global environmental challenges.
A Commitment to the Future
As Green Cross International moves forward within the network, we look forward to contributing expertise to GEN’s collaborative sessions and working alongside UNEP and partner institutions. We remain committed to foster global environmental frameworks for protection for both people and the planet. Green Cross International extends its sincere appreciation to the Geneva Environment Network and UNEP for facilitating this renewed participation.
